Yogasana Class Etiquette in an Ashram setting

If it’s your first time going to yogasana class, you might not know what to expect. It would help to understand the general protocol ahead of time. Additionally, an ashram might be a totally different world, so here is some advice. This might also help you to ground and stay connected to the purpose of your visit to the ashram. Arrive Early and Be Prepared Usually, arriving ten minutes before class starts is best. Give yourself enough time to arrive so that you can settle easily and be relaxed before the start of the class. Amrita Yoga at Amritapuri is a ‘Heart Opening’ Journey in Life

Everyone’s experience of yoga is different. Not only that, the same yoga class can be entirely different for each person. That’s what makes yoga so beautiful. For me, Amrita Yoga has so many aspects, but if I had to describe it in two words it would be ‘heart opening’. I love coming to the Amrita Yoga Mandiram for Amrita Yoga retreats. Reluctance and lessons through my first experience with Amrita Yoga at Amrita Vidyalayam, Karwar

I work as a teacher at Amrita Vidyalayam, Sadashivagad, Karwar. I would like to share my experience about the Amrita Yoga session held in our school on 15th and 16th November, 2014. I have been working in this school since June 2001. In our school yoga sessions were often held but I never participated in any of these sessions because of a notion that I will not be able to do it. Discovering the Divine Mother’s Presence through ‘True’ Yoga at Amritapuri

Amrita Yoga may only be described as ‘true yoga’. The word yoga is derived from the Samskritam root word “yuj”, which means to unite, join, and connect. Amrita Yoga embodies the divine words of Lord Krishna to Arjuna in the Bhagavad Gita as per the four yogas: Bhakti, Jnana, Karma and Raja. Within Amma’s powerful yet gentle embrace, we, as students, are treated to a wholesome experience like no other. Privileged and blessed, I bow at Amma’s lotus feet and thank Amma for this glimpse of true Union at Amritapuri. The 4-Day, Intermediate Retreat that I attended was packed...

Longing For God Like a Dog For His Owner

My personal adventure with my dog started after a visit to an astrologer in Amma’s ashram. He told me many interesting things about my life, past and future, and many issues about myself that were so personal that I would say it had taken me a lifetime to realize from myself most of the things he said to me in barely an hour. I apparently had some karma related with animals, which is congruent with my feelings and love towards them since childhood. When he suggested it was positive for me to feed animals, specifically dogs, I made a...
