Rhythm of Breath: A Sonnet

This sonnet reflects on the beauty of nature, the tenderness of breath, and the pain caused by conflict and environmental harm. It ends with a prayerful hope that breath can unite us in love, humility, and harmony.

My joyful heartbeats bathe in blessed bliss,
Combined with sounds of nature’s magic score,
While wind’s divine caress and sun’s warm kiss
Lace lapping waves that dance upon the shore.

As foamy curls recede, once more I sigh
For hints of fullness, ripe and rich with life.
My arms outstretch, as though to grasp the sky,
Beyond all thoughts of human stress and strife.

But nightly news chants hateful war-refrains
That strangle Gaia’s gifts and climate’s range,
That hold us hostage, bound by greedy chains—
Perhaps beyond what we can rearrange.

Let macramé of breath unite us now
In songs of hope and love—and humble bows.
