What is Amrita Yoga

Amrita Yoga is a school of yoga directly formed from Amma’s sankalpa (a divine intention) prompted by unconditional love and an attitude of service to the world. Amrita Yoga offers a holistic approach, focused on Awareness with heart-centered intention and aims to transcend the physical asana practice.

The theme “Awareness with heart-centered intention” reflects Amma’s guidance to keep these elements at the core of the program content and training methods.

Our Aim

The foremost aim of Amrita Yoga is to transcend from a physical asana practice into yoga’s original meaning and purpose, including to enhance and deepen one’s awareness and to foster not only physical, but mental and spiritual evolution as well.

Our programs, in general, attempt to cultivate and support a holistic attitude (mano bhavana) with a focus on three aspects: skill development, practical Vedanta and enhanced awareness.

Our Vision

We provide a practical way for people worldwide to lead heart-centered lives and to discover their true nature.

Our Mission

To provide a comprehensive yoga program that is rooted in the ancient yet practical spiritual principles taught by Satguru Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi (Amma), that enables students to cultivate a holistic attitude (mano bhavana), embrace practical Vedanta, and discover improved physical strength, mental equanimity, and enhanced awareness of their hidden abilities.

Our philosophy:
“Amrita Yoga – Living from the Heart” and intention for practitioners

• Our program is designed to encourage an on-going practice of “the middle way”—an integration of all four yoga paths—to support a loving and focused life.

• The four major paths of yoga namely Bhakti Yoga (yoga of devotion), Jnana Yoga (yoga of wisdom), Karma Yoga (yoga of selfless action), and Raja Yoga (yoga of contemplation, creativity and meditation) are combined into one asana practice.

• The yogic practices taught make it possible to reach a state of unity that leads to a progressively deeper inner journey and enables better expression of our true essence.

• Students are encouraged to continuously apply experiences and insights gained on the yoga mat into their daily life by consciously witnessing themselves, accepting the different situations they encounter, and reflecting on their reactions.

• In Amma, we can see someone actually living from the stillness of the heart. Upon meeting her, people often feel inspired and encouraged to practice her teachings and find their unique way to live with a deep sense of purpose, commitment, and fulfillment – to live closer to the heart!

The Amrita Yoga Team:
